Purple Angel has been hailed by critics worldwide as a wine from another planet. It represents a new dimension of Carmenère, a grape variety rediscovered in Chile in 1994, after being thought extinct when phylloxera devastated Bordeaux two centuries earlier. Today, Carmenère is synonymous with Chilean wine, and Purple Angel is synonymous with the finest Carmenère.

Colchagua is one of Chile's most prestigious wine-growing valleys, where Viña Montes was a pioneer in establishing its production. Apalta, with its gentle sun exposure, allows for slow and complete ripening of the grapes, while in Marchigüe, near the Pacific Ocean, the red grapes ripen under the influence of cooler temperatures.
