THE UNION OF SCOTTISH ART AND JAPANESE TRADITION
Chivas Mizunara is the world's first blended Scotch whisky to include a special finish* in Japanese Mizunara oak casks, making it an exceptional and unique drink.
This whisky has a spicy and floral character reminiscent of traditional Japanese whiskies, appealing to both Scotch and Japanese whisky aficionados. This harmonious fusion of two cultural traditions results in an elegant and refined whisky, with a complexity and richness distinguished by its hints of coconut, sandalwood, and sweet spices, thanks to the influence of Mizunara oak.
WHAT IS THE MIZUNARA OAK?
Mizunara oak is a tree species native to Japan, known for its open grain and the characteristics it imparts to the whiskies in which it matures. This type of oak is highly valued for its ability to develop complex and exotic flavors. Sandy Hyslop, Chivas Master Blender, traveled to a cooperage in Japan to work directly with a master cooper and establish the exact specifications for the Mizunara casks, thus ensuring the highest quality for the maturation process and the unique flavor profile that characterizes Chivas Mizunara.
IS CHIVAS MIZUNARA A JAPANESE WHISKY?
No. Chivas Mizunara remains a blended Scotch whisky. By adding the final touch in Mizunara oak casks, we intensify the delicate floral notes already present in our Scottish blend, creating a perfect synergy between Scotch and Japanese whisky traditions. This process, far from altering its Scottish essence, enriches it, offering a unique sensory experience that celebrates the best of both worlds.
